SOUTH MOORLANDS JUNIOR CRICKET LEAGUE
U15 SECTION

Leek travelled to local rivals Ashcombe Park for their next fixture in the South Moorlands Junior Cricket League.  Leek lost the toss and were asked to bat first and at one stage in the innings they were struggling on 25 for 3, but excellent knocks by
Nathan Ball 37 retired, Zac Jupp 35 retired and Bassitt Mahmood 17, enabled Leek to finish with a respectable score of 125 with the loss of 6 wickets.

With bad light prevailing and a heavy thunderstorm the Ashcombe innings was cut short on 44 for 1 after 7 overs, meaning that the match ended in a draw.

Despite losing their 100% record, Leek maintained their position at the top of the league.

COUNTY YOUTH AREA CUP FINAL

 

Leek entertained Porthill Park in the County Area Cup Final on Thursday evening and put up a creditable performance before losing narrowly.  On winning the toss, Leek amassed a score of 114 for the loss of 5 wickets, with the main contributions coming from Alex Thompson 43, Oliver Mellor 25 and Bassitt Mahmood 10.  In reply, Porthill scored the winning runs for the loss of 5 wickets with 3 balls remaining.  The Leek wicket takers were Haroon Mahmood with 1 for 15, Bassitt Mahmood 1 for 22 and
Alex Thompson 1 for 23.

This was another excellent performance by the young Leek side, as Porthill are renowned for being the best team in the County at this particular age group.  Leek return to league fixtures this week with a home game against local rivals Knypersley.

 

 

SOUTH MOORLANDS LEEK JUNIOR U15 CRICKET LEAGUE

 Leek entertained local rivals Knypersley in their next league fixture.  Knypersley batted first and in difficult conditions they amassed a very respectable 143 for the loss of 7 wickets.  Top scorers for Knypersley were C Percival with 35 retired and J Cliffe 35 retired.  The Leek wicket takers were Zac Jupp, Nathan Ball, Haroon Mahmood,

Patrick Richardson and David Williamson.  In reply, the Leek innings got off to an excellent start with Oliver Mellor scoring 37 off only 10 balls received.  He received excellent support from George Mealy with 35 retired and Peter Copeland 35 retired.  Leek reached their target in the 18th over for the loss of 4 wickets.  This was another excellent performance by the Leek juniors and preserves their place at the top of the league.

 

Leek continue their fixtures next week with an away match at Meakins.

 

SOUTH MOORLANDS JUNIOR CRICKET LEAGUE
U15 SECTION

 

Leek entertained Sandyford on Monday evening and had a comfortable victory.  On winning the toss, Leek asked their opponents to bat first and they managed to accumulate a score of 76 for the loss of 6 wickets.  The Leek wicket takers were Nathan Ball,
Haroon Mahmood, Bassitt Mahmood and David Williamson.  In reply, Leek knocked off the required runs for the loss of 2 wickets, with Alex Thompson retiring on 36 not out and Haroon Mahmood hitting a very competitive 30.  This win consolidates Leek’s position at the top of the league with two matches to go. 

Their next fixture is away to Caverswall on Monday evening, followed by their final game versus Bagnall a week later

 

SOUTH MOORLANDS U15 JUNIOR CRICKET LEAGUE

CAVERSWALL v LEEK CC

 

Leek travelled to Caverswall for their penultimate fixture and returned with a resounding victory.  On winning the toss, Leek elected to bat first and amassed a very creditable score of 182 for the loss of 3 wickets in their 20 overs.  Four Leek batsmen retired with scores in excess of 35, namely Alex Thompson, Haroon Mahmood, Oliver Mellor and Bassitt Mahmood.  In reply, Caverswall were restricted to a score of 67 for the loss of 4 wickets.  The Leek wicket takers were David Williamson, Ryan Ball, Haroon Mahmood and one run out.  This was another comprehensive victory by the Leek boys, who have improved in ability and stature on a weekly basis.

 


 

 

LEEK CC v BAGNALL

U15 SOUTH MOORLANDS JUNIOR CRICKET LEAGUE

 

Leek were confirmed as champions on Monday evening with another comprehensive victory, this time over local neighbours, Bagnall.  On winning the toss, Leek elected to bat first and amassed a score of 111.  The major contributions came from Oliver Mellor with 33, Patrick Richardson with 26 and Pete Copeland with 15.  In reply, Bagnall put up a creditable effort before falling just short, with a score of 96 for the loss of 7 wickets.

Being crowned champions is a just reward for all of the hard work that the boys have put in during the course of the season.  The Club would like to thank all the parents who have assisted during the season and in particular, John and Tanya Mealey.  The boys can now look forward to attending the presentation evening at the Kings Hall in Stoke when they will receive their championship medals and trophy.
